The rise and concern of the e-Bike

Our roads and paths are becoming swamped with the latest consumer craze for electronic driven devices – e-Bikes, e-Scooters and even those dreaded Hoverboards (which our media just to love to bash).

Sales of e-Bikes (or Pedelecs to give them their Sunday name) are on the increase. Back in 2003 it was estimated that sale figures were around the 2k mark… Today, e-Bike sales are over 25,000 per annum. Still nowhere near the likes of Holland (120,000) or Germany (400,000) and then there’s China with over 200 million e-Bike users.

TfL publish Urban Motorcycle Design Handbook

Its been a project more than two years in the making and finally the Transport for London have released the Urban Motorcycle Design Handbook to the public in a bid “to properly consider the interests and safety of all PTW riders – including riders pf mopeds, scooters and motorbikes.”

Hydro Motorbike Stunt Goes Wrong – “Audience Members” Hurt

A motorbike show went horribly wrong in Glasgow when “three members of the audience” were badly injured in a stunt performed by the Nitro Circus team.

Thousands had packed into the Hydro Arena on Thursday the 5th of February to watch the spectacle and as part of one stunt, “three members of the audience” were picked to take part in a stunt which would see all three plus a rider perform a back flip at the top of a large ramp.

Over 68K Suzuki motorcycles recalled because of stalling risk

Over 68,000 motorbikes are being recalled in the United States by bike manufacturing giant Suzuki due to a failing battery charging system which causes the bikes to stall.

The Suzuki recall will affect models produced between 2008 and 2012.

US safety regulators have documented that the problem has been traced to a circuit board in the bike’s charging system. Suzuki will notify owners by early March whose bikes are affected to contact their nearest dealer and have the charging system regulator-rectifier replaced at no cost to the owner.
