bikers can safely weave in traffic

Is the reason that a lot of drivers get annoyed with motorcyclists weaving in and out of traffic down to the fact that they’re getting ahead of the arduous queues?

Perhaps…

As a driver, when you’re facing yet another jam in the rush hour traffic, it can be really infuriating to have to sit their as time almost comes to a standstill, and then you see a biker moving freely down the line as they weave between the traffic.

At the end of the day, though, they’re doing nothing wrong.

Bikers can legally weave through the traffic

There’s absolutely nothing wrong at all with a biker safely weaving down the line of traffic. As long as it’s done safely, they’re allowed to do it.

Whether it’s an A-road or a motorway in stop-start traffic, they’re entitled to weave between the lanes to move through the traffic more smoothly. A biker doesn’t have to wait in the line of traffic if they can weave between it safely. But even when safe to do so, things still go wrong…

Typically, what can happen is a driver changes lane or turns down a road and hits a biker safely weaving through traffic. During the busy rush-hour traffic, it’s not unheard of at all for a driver to suddenly swing into another lane or dart down a side-road in efforts to get down the line of traffic quicker or avoid it altogether.

That swift manoeuvre may be all it takes to hit a biker who has been safely weaving down the line or moving past the inside of the line of traffic.
