There are thousands of motorcycle accidents in the UK every year, and one reason for this is due to the significant threat motorcyclists face from larger vehicles. Due to their exposure and lack of protection from their open-air vehicle, motorcyclists can easily suffer internal organ damage when an accident does occur.

At The Motorbike Injury Lawyers, we understand the vulnerability of motorcyclists on busy roads, and we do not believe that motorcyclists should simply accept the increased dangers with which larger vehicles confront them. As such, if you have suffered an injury in a motorbike accident through no fault of your own, you may be entitled to claim compensation.

Road accidents and internal organ damage

Of all the different types of injuries that motorcyclists can suffer in a road accident, internal organ damage is among the most severe. Indeed, road accidents are a primary culprit of organ damage, because of the speed and impact it takes for such injuries to occur. Blunt trauma to any of our organs or the tissue around them can cause internal bleeding and, in the long term, such injuries can damage the function of the affected organs.

Claiming for internal organ damage

If your accident occurred within the last three years, and you were not deemed to be at fault for the collision, or at least not fully at fault, you may have a compensation claim to make. Internal organ damage compensation amounts can vary significantly depending on the organ that has been injured, and the level of damage the organ suffered. Here are a few examples of some potential claim values for chest injuries with internal organ damage, with data sourced from the official guidelines used for valuing injury cases:

  • Chest injury causing permanent tissue damage but not significant long-term lung problems: £10,040 to £14,320.
  • Damage to the chest and lungs causing some continuing disability: £24,950 to £43,710.
  • Traumatic injury to the chest, lungs or heart with permanent damage and reduced life expectancy: £52,390 to £80,250.

In addition, here are some examples of compensation amounts for head injuries and brain damage:

  • Minimal brain or head injury: up to £11,200.
  • Less severe brain injury: up to £37,760.
  • Moderate injury, with some intellectual deficiency, personality changes, impact on senses, and an impact on capacity for work: up to £192,090.00.
  • Moderately severe injury, with seriously disability and physical limitations: up to £247,280.00.
  • Very severe: limited capacity and little to no vital function: up to £354,260.00.

Of course, there are many other organs that may suffer damage in a motorcycle accident, and the amounts listed above are just some examples from the valuation guidelines. Further, these amounts only account for the damages for the injuries alone, and the losses and expenses that can be claimed in addition can be substantial in serious injury cases. We evaluate every injury claim on a case-by-case basis, using your medical records as well as commissioning a medico-legal report from an appropriate specialist where applicable to ensure that we have accurate evidence to back up your claim.
